Mushrooms are transported in a variety of ways, including:
Polythene bags
Fresh mushrooms are packed in perforated polythene bags, each containing around 250–500 grams of mushrooms.
Pulp board punnets
For long distance transport, mushrooms are packed in punnets wrapped with PVC films.
Insulated containers
Pre-cooled mushrooms are packed in insulated containers with ice to keep them fresh during long transport.
Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) and controlled atmosphere packaging (CAP)
These packaging techniques are used to improve the shelf life of mushrooms.
